The Jerez La Leyenda event is scheduled to go ahead and will once again feature a host of historic racing action.

Iberian Historic Endurance

The fascination with racing in historic cars goes far beyond the competition scope. Each weekend of racing is a journey through time for the drivers and their companions – a journey to an era when the racing atmosphere was a lot more relaxed and fun. The goal of the Historic Endurance is to provide all the participants with a special experience of conviviality, emotion, and nostalgia. This competition gives meaning and sense to the acquisition and possession of a historic racing car, regardless of class or power.

Adrenaline and emotion are sure things when visiting the most exciting and challenging circuits in Southern Europe, where the pleasant weather provides excellent conditions for driving, and the transport of vehicles and equipment is easy and affordable. Some events happen within the context of major classic cars festivals, where the atmosphere becomes even more special.

The Iberian Historic Endurance is an organization of gentlemen drivers for gentleman drivers.  The also driver Diogo Ferrão is in charge of this set-up, bringing into this Iberian competition his expertise and vast experience, which includes several appearances in various events, such as the Goodwood Revival, Le Mans Classic and Old-timer Grand Prix in Nordschleife.

The Iberian Historic Endurance is not intended for drivers looking purely to win races. We are a constantly growing group of friends, a gathering of the participants’ families and the teams, going far beyond a 50-minute race.

If you have an interest in participating or in learning more what this competition is really about, please send us an email (diogo.ferrao@historicendurance.com). We love getting to know all drivers and teams individually and helping out with whatever we can.

Group 1 Portugal

Borned in 2012, this classic series with Group1 Pre-1981 specifications, was made for teams that were looking to compete in a championship where there was a controlled participation costs, like the English spirit of the “Club Racing”. This competition is always disputed by class, rewording the teams and drivers big effort who runs in each classes, fighting their own championship inside the championship.

Like it was on the past, this races are getting extremely interesting. Remember the GR1 national championships of 1979, 1980 and 1981, not mentioning the famous english BTCC, also disputed with this kind of cars.

Nowadays, like in Portugal, England and France, Group1 races have been very well disputed and competitive and the grids growing every day.

Besides this, the cars value is increasing, with a lot more interested people in Europe, in participate on this competitions, making this a secure investment.

Mini Trophy

Always a presence on the tracks since the 60’s, MINI has always been an icon for car races. 60 years passed, and today this model still gives the same show for the crowd to enjoy.

Mini Trophy in Portugal is for MK4 SPI and SPI models, according to the English rules for the “Mighty Mini” – engine and standard gear box. This configuration makes the acquisition very affordable with a low maintenance, with all the car pieces being standard and with very low prices. The Mighty Mini Trophy is ruled by 3 basic principles: fun, elegance and competition. Despite the low prices, it’s crucial that all drivers and teams understands that this is a classic car trophy, and that the final results will not lead any of them to Formula 1. The Portuguese Mini Trophy always races in the same tracks where the Group 1 Portugal is racing, once they have the same calendar.

Carrera Los 80’s

The late 1970’s and 80’s were the golden years of the Tourism races, with several Tourism Championships flourishing across Europe, notably the European Tourism Championship endurance races. These races were very popular with the public with big flame spitting Touring cars led by Roberto Ravaglia, Steve Soper or Tom Walkinshaw between others.

The idea is to offer a new championship for more “modern” tourism racing cars, but always in the spirit of the Iberian Historic Endurance, which stands for respect for opponents, a Gentlemen Driver attitude and the already famous 3 C’s (No Crashing, No Cheating and No Complaining), in all the events that will take place in Spain.

The Jerez La Leyenda event offers a wonderful weekend of historic racing action.

The Classic 24 Hour returns this November to the banks of Daytona International Speedway. The event will comprise racing for HSR race groups and incorporate a round of the Masters Endurance Legends USA series. This grid caters for a broad range of cars and showcases endurance races from the Group C era of 1982 right up to their modern equivalents of 2016.

The featured marque at the 2020 24 Hour event will be BMW.

Classic 24 Hour Race Groups

GROUP A 1960-1972

The oldest and perhaps most memory-stirring division, Group A is home to classic sports cars and prototypes from the early 1960’s all the way through the 1970’s.

GROUP B 1973-1982

Evoking the same emotion and memories of Group A with a little more turbo-power and wide-body aerodynamics, Group G spans from the mid-1970’s to the early 1980’s.

GROUP C 1980-1990

The prime of the IMSA GTP and Group C era is at the heart of this Group, not to mention some memorable GT and production-based race cars.

GROUP D 1994-2002

Historic but familiar, Group D has prototypes and GT cars from the mid-1990’s all the way through the early 2000s.

GROUP E 2000-2018

The fastest and most contemporary class, Group E features prototypes and GT machines that raced at Daytona as recently as a decade ago.

GROUP F – 2000-2018

Due to the popularity of the current prototypes and GT machines we have expanded Group E.  Group F will encompass the older generation of the Prototypes and GT machines.

GROUP G HSR CARS

Home to the HSR classes that are not represented in the other six groups, Group G lets competitors with race cars that were never eligible to race at Daytona a chance to establish some new history.

Complementing the Classic 24 Hour will be HSR’s signature Sprint Races & Endurance Series.

Corvettes are being celebrated as the main feature.

All SVRA classes will be present including the Miata Heritage Cup – bound to be exciting on the roval track.

The historic Charlotte 1.5-mile banked oval built in 1959 by Bruton Smith was one of the first Super Speedways. Today, there’s not only an adjacent four-lane quarter-mile dragstrip, but an incredible “roval” track that combines portions of the banked oval Speedway with an infield road course to create a 2.28-mile, 17-turn “street circuit on steroids!” In 2019, the road course was updated by widening the backstretch chicane for safer side-by-side racing.

In addition to racing, there’s a lot to see and do around the 640-acre facility…a car show, track touring, row, zip-lines, karting, disc golf…it all adds up to a remarkable race weekend. Not to mention the bratwurst, fresh corn and post-race brews!
