Created in 1899 by the Automobile Club de France, the Tour Auto is the oldest motor racing event still in operation. Over the years it became one of the most prestigious rallies in the world, attracting legendary makes such as Ferrari, Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes, Maserati, Matra driven by equally renowned drivers such as Maurice Trintignant, Stirling Moss, Phil Hill, Bernard Darniche, Jean Pierre Beltoise and Henri Pescarolo.

The revival of this event in 1992 in the form of a historical retrospective, was an immediate success. Three years were enough to establish the event as one of the world’s most important automobile events for major collectors.

The current event format recreates the original concept, alternating timed sessions on road & circuit, with a unique atmosphere. The Tour Auto is one of the few events in the world that any historic car enthusiast would not want to miss.

Route

Long-awaited by fans of the event, the route of the Tour Auto 2024 has now been revealed. Starting in Paris, stage towns comprise Tours (La Grange de Meslay), Limoges, Carcassonne, Pau and finally Biarritz, for each day from 22 to 27 April. Track visits will see drivers compete on the circuits of Le Mans, Val de Vienne, Nogaro and Pau Arnos.

The 47th Historic Winton, Australia’s longest running and most popular historic car and motorcycle race event, will be held on 25th and 26th May 2024 at Winton Motor Raceway, near Benalla. Thousands of historic race competitors and spectators will flock to Winton Motor Raceway for another ‘edge-of-your-seat’ weekend of thrills and spills.

Racing, Parades, Displays

Organised by the Austin 7 Club Inc, President Len Kerwood said that the inaugural N Class Touring Car “Tin Top” Regularity event was such a big hit in 2023 that it’s on the program again in 2024.  “The Tin Tops (touring cars from pre-1958 to 1972) will be amongst 400 odd cars and motorbikes competing at Historic Winton,” Mr Kerwood said. “Vehicles from the beginning of motoring to the mid-1980s will grace the track. The Sunday Parade is another favourite ‘best of’ event with participating vehicles chosen from anniversary and car park displays. Motoring enthusiasts arrive in their historic vehicles turning the car parks into magnificent showcase.”

He said dream of cruising around Winton Motor Raceway in the Sunday Parade and although we get requests ahead of the event, the participants were selected on the day, with invitees receiving an invitation placed under the windscreen wiper early in the morning. “Participants will be selected based on the number of vehicles in an anniversary group, rarity and presentation,” he said. Mr Kerwood said that research for the 2024 Anniversary vehicle displays was under way, but it was already known that a number of Austin 7 models will celebrate 90 years and Dodge will celebrate 110 years. The full list of anniversary display vehicles will be announced in the New Year.

The 32nd edition of Bordino Grand Prix visits Lake Maggiore
Image | Grand Prix Bordino

The passion for vintage cars and the visit of lake Maggiore will be at the base of the 32nd edition of Grand Prix Bordino: an event at the very top of slow tourism in places, where history and nature intertwine.

Lago Maggiore, surrounded by the Pre-Alps and a treasure chest of unique jewels such as Borromee Islands, has inspired men of letter, writers, musicians from all around Europe, who, between the 18th and 19th century chose it for their journeys. Among the best known Stendhal, Byron Dumas senior, Flobert, Dickens, Nietzsche, Dostoevskiy, Liszt and Wagner. They all appointed Lago Maggiore as the most pleasant lake in the world.

We will go on an enchanting cruise by night of the Borromee Islands, living the magic atmosphere of the lake from a privileged point of view.

Dinner will be in a typical restaurant on Isola Bella, the most fashinating of all the islands.

We will visit Villa Taranto in Pallanza, considered one of the richest botanic garden in the world with its thousands of species – eucalyptus, azalea, rhododendron, magnolia, maple, camelia and dahlia, stretching over an area measuring 16 hectars.

And then again the visit of two other pearls set between the hills of northern Piedmont: lake Mergozzo and lake Orta, considered among the most romantic in Italy.

Don’t miss this edition where tourism, culture, food and wine mix at the highest level to give birth to Grand Prix Bordino 2024.
