Taupo Historic Grand Prix @ Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park
Jan 22 – Jan 24 all-day

McLaren M23 expected to race at the Taupo Historic Grand Prix

The fifth edition of the Taupō Historic GP will continue the now annual tradition of celebrating a marque of car each year – and for 2021, it will be Ford.

Included in the iconic Fords models and Ford-powered cars expected to appear at the 2021 Taupō Historic GP is an example of the last Formula One car raced by New Zealand’s only World Champion, the late Denny Hulme; the Ford-Cosworth DFV-powered McLaren M23 now owned by the Giltrap family.

Ford races and on-track demonstrations will feature the numerous models of Zephyrs, Anglias, Cortinas, Mustangs, Escorts, Capris and Falcons that have graced race tracks and rally stages around New Zealand for over 60 years.

The single-seater races will include 1967 to 1988 examples of the world’s most successful junior category, Formula Ford. It was in Formula Ford that some of New Zealand’s most successful international drivers including Scott Dixon, Earl Bamber, Shane Van Gisbergen, Greg Murphy and Craig Baird honed the skills that took them to numerous championship and race titles around the world.

Events

As well as grids for iconic Fords and Ford-powered cars over the three-day event, racing at the 2021 Taupō Historic GP will include:

  • Formula 5000s, the iconic stock-block 5-litre V8 single-seater category that dominated single-seaterracing in NZ, Australia, the United States and the UK from the late 1960s to 1976;
  • Historic Muscle Cars and Historic Saloon Cars, the FIA Group 2 and Group 5 touring cars that contested the New Zealand Saloon Car Championships in the late 1960s and early 1970s;
  • Formula Juniors and Sports Racing Cars from 1958 to the late 1960s.

Corvettes are being celebrated as the main feature.

All SVRA classes will be present including the Miata Heritage Cup – bound to be exciting on the roval track.

The historic Charlotte 1.5-mile banked oval built in 1959 by Bruton Smith was one of the first Super Speedways. Today, there’s not only an adjacent four-lane quarter-mile dragstrip, but an incredible “roval” track that combines portions of the banked oval Speedway with an infield road course to create a 2.28-mile, 17-turn “street circuit on steroids!” In 2019, the road course was updated by widening the backstretch chicane for safer side-by-side racing.

Events

All SVRA classes are participating.

This year, Mazda is being celebrated as the Featured Marque. Eligible Miatas are invited to compete in the Miata Heritage Cup.

Circuit

Lime Rock has been in continuous operation since 1957, making it one of the longest-running, historically important and authentic race tracks in America. Just 1.5-miles around, Lime Rock is a surprisingly fast “momentum” course with short straights, complex corners and exciting elevation changes. Juan Manuel Fangio II famously called Lime Rock “A mysterious riddle, a track where a perfect lap will never be driven!”

Competing at Lime Rock has been described as “a picnic in a park with cars,” since the track is cradled in a natural amphitheater formed by the Litchfield Hills. Spectators can be found frolicking on the grassy banking, but never on Sunday, since a court injunction has barred Sunday racing since 1959.

Circuit

Located in a city park along the Columbia River, Portland International Raceway is a 12-turn, 1.9-mile circuit built on site of the former town of Vanport, which was completely destroyed by a flood in 1948. The land was acquired by the city of Portland in 1960 and the first sports car race was held in conjunction with the 1961 Rose Festival on a circuit composed of some of Vanport’s remaining streets.

PIR welcomes all SVRA race groups and all classes. Adding to the excitement is the 2021 Kastner Cup, an annual gathering of Triumph race cars from all over the world. The Miata Heritage Cup added this track to its Series.

There’s always a lot to enjoy at PIR, including car show marque corrals, new car activations, vendor row, track touring and fun all weekend long.

DATES ARE PROVISIONAL – TO BE CONFIRMED

Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix is the flagship of Danish Motorsports. The race takes place in Bellahøj, Copenhagen each year during. CHGP is action, drama, speed and entertainment for the entire family as we celebrate historic race cars and famous race drivers – both Danish icons and international stars.

Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix Events

65 Class

The racing cars in this class originate from the period 1961 to 1965 and are therefore relatively technological equivalents. If the same applies to the drivers, many of whom have birth certificate from the same period, we must let the day show.

71 Class

Race in motor-powered cars like BMW 2002, Ford Escort BDA and the all-around Ford Lotus Cortina.Enjoy the popular features of American-like Americans like the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Corvette.

90 Class

The class of standard cars from 1971-1990 is a great mix of two decades’ most inspiring car models. It may seem a bit confusing that sports cars are also represented, but the two-seater sports cars are a wonderful supplement in an exciting class.

Formula Junior

The Formula Junior class from the 1950s was a showcase for Formula 1 with lower budgets and thus a more popular entrance to the sport. CHGP presents: Single seaters!

Circuit

Conceived as a private track by the late Utah businessman and auto enthusiast Larry H. Miller, it blossomed into a $100-million complex that opened in 2006 as Miller Motorsports Park.

Track designer Alan Wilson created a challenging 23-turn, 4.486-mile road course that offers sight lines from all points, abundant run-off and generous passing zones. The Campus also has kart, off-road, rock-crawling and rally-cross tracks.
