The P. Bordino Veteran Car Club organizes the 31st edition of the Bordino Grand Prix from 26-28 May 2023.
After the thirtieth anniversary edition in Portofino, we are ready for a new extraordinary adventure! Tbis year we tour the land of Piedmont, whose landscapes are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Langhe and Roero. We will take a break from the hectic everyday life – lots of relaxation, gourmet moments at the highest level, immersing ourselves in nature, and reliving history through art and traditions.
Event Itinerary
The departure is scheduled for Friday afternoon from Alessandria, where you will experience an atmosphere “of yesteryear”, a real party with a huge audience that will cheer on the drivers, lots of entertainment, with participants strictly dressed in period clothing.
The destination of the evening will be a renowned wine cellar in Canale d’Alba. We will taste typical Piedmontese specialties accompanied by wines of absolute excellence, in a very prestigious environment among wooden barrels, a hand-cut stone cellar, in a spectacular underground room with “cotto” tiled walls.
We will stay at the Albergo dell’Agenzia, an old Savoyard residence that has been reborn from a Slow Food idea. Located inside a marvelous neo-Gothic complex, it is a large space comprising the Hotel, the University of Gastronomic Sciences with its academic plaques and the Wine Bank.
Saturday morning is dedicated to culture with a visit to the Castle of Racconigi, one of the Royal Residences of Europe. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with more history and more stories to tell. In particular, it offers perfectly preserved, splendid decorations from different eras and a myriad of furniture expressions of heterogeneous tastes and styles.
In the afternoon we will visit the Wine Bank, one of the most important wine collections globally. Housed here is a collection of the best national labels, selected by a commission of experts who will let us taste some of the most important wines in the world.
Sunday sees a return to Alessandria, visiting Ghilini Palace, an authentic jewel of the Piedmontese Baroque for lunch and the awards.

For 2023, the Put-in-Bay Sports Car Races will honor Japanese marques with expanded vehicle eligibilities for the very first time. Held on an historic Lake Erie island, this unique vintage racing event has always featured a heritage focus.
This year, organizers plan a celebration of Japanese car brands and their collective role in motorsports in addition to the traditional lineup of entries. Datsun/Nissan, Honda, Mazda and Toyota entrants built 1990 and prior will be eligible for a “featured marque” discount and join the traditional Put-in-Bay race groups generally comprising 1973 and earlier cars. Hence first-generation Mazda Miatas, rotary powered RX7s, Toyota MR2 coupes and similar under-3 liter, pre-1991 cars driven by experienced vintage racers will now be able to take part in “the Holy Grail of Old-School Vintage Racing.”
“By opening entry eligibility to enthusiasts of the next generation of small-bore sports cars and sedans we feel we are staying true to the concept of the original Put-in-Bay Road Races while also expanding our ‘reach’ to a broader group of vintage racers,” said event coordinator Manley Ford. Adding that the annual Put-in-Bay event has entry options for both racing- and non-racing participants, Ford notes, “We also expect to attract a broader slate of street-car entries and spectators as well.”
History and Events
- Small-bore sports cars raced through the narrow streets of the island from 1952-1959 and one ‘last time’ in 1963
- Vintage Races have been held annually at the Put-in-Bay Airport since 2012 (except 2020)
- Today’s challenging and competitive 1.2-mile hay-bale lined course rewards precise braking and nimble handling on a pristinely maintained surface that offers excellent grip, numerous passing opportunities and varieties of racing lines
- Besides two days of racing, there is also an all-entrant’s car show, police-escorted tour-laps of the original 3.1-mile road course, social gatherings and the highly competitive and entertaining “rocker cover races.”
