The 2020 edition of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique will mark the 12th running of this prestigious event in the Principality.
Created as part of the celebrations to commemorate the 700-year reign of the Grimaldi dynasty, the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique has become the jewel in the crown of the historic motorsport calendar for fans, competitors, spectators and classic racing aficionados all over the world. Since its inaugural edition in 1997, this event has taken place every other year, a fortnight before Formula 1’s Monaco Grand Prix. Over the course of two-and-a-half days, the Principality is transformed into a veritable pantheon of single-seaters from throughout the sport’s history.
The seven races will be named after a pilot’s name, who made an impact during the time of the cars of the concerned race.
The program of this 12th edition is as follows:
RACE A LOUIS CHIRON – Pre-war Grand Prix cars and Voiturettes
RACE B JUAN-MANUEL FANGIO – Grand Prix cars with front engine built from 1946 to 1960
RACE C VITTORIO MARZOTTO – Front-engine Sport Racing cars from 1952 to 1957
RACE D GRAHAM HILL – 1500 – F1 Grand Prix cars from 1961 to 1965
RACE E JACKIE STEWART – F1 Grand Prix cars 3L from 1966 to 1972
RACE F NIKI LAUDA – F1 Grand Prix cars 3L from 1973 to 1976
RACE G GILLES VILLENEUVE – F1 Grand Prix cars 3L from 1977 to 1980
After being reintroduced as a race in 2018 and subsequent to its tremendous success, the ‘Race A’ will remain a fully-fledged race. This category represents THE unmissable world meeting of Grand Prix cars, which were called « Formula 1 » as soon as World War II ended.
All in all, there will be more than 220 Grand Prix cars, selected for both their historical value and their degree of authenticity.
